James Hamrick, MD, MPH

Board-Certified Medical Oncologist, Hematologist, and Internist

James Hamrick, MD, MPH, is a board-certified medical oncologist, hematologist, internist, and health tech thought leader with extensive experience leveraging technology to improve patient care. As the third physician hire at Flatiron Health, James helped lead the growth of the OncoEMR community oncology network through early-stage development, during the 2018 acquisition by Roche ($2.1B), and into the current best-in-class oncology EMR and real-world evidence business. James leads the team of doctors, nurses, and informatics specialists who inform the development and applications of the Flatiron HCTM products and services relied upon by front-line clinicians in hundreds of cancer clinics across the United States.

James joined Flatiron from Kaiser Permanente of Georgia in 2016, where he served as chief of medical oncology and hematology. Prior to that, he practiced at Georgia Cancer Specialists. He is on the board of the
Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education and previously served on the Kaiser Permanente National Inter-Regional Cancer Leadership Council and the KP National Cancer Chiefs Council.

He is a product-minded clinician and thought leader with extensive speaking experience at national forums related to the implementation of technology into clinical workflow, artificial intelligence, clinical decision support, care quality measurement, patient safety, and value-based care.

James received his MD and an MPH in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco.
